The Chicago Sky orchestrated a remarkable fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Dallas Wings 83-74 on Saturday night, evening the season-opening series at one game apiece. Trailing by eight points entering the final period, the Sky ignited offensively to outscore the Wings 28-11, spurred by contributions across the roster.

Key Contributions Drive Chicago

Diamond DeShields led the charge with 16 points, setting the pace for Chicago’s balanced attack. Marina Mabrey sparked the rally with a three-pointer in the opening moments of the fourth quarter, followed by Elizabeth Williams who scored back-to-back baskets. Angel Reese capped off the surge with a three-point play, giving Chicago a 67-65 lead halfway through the quarter. Reese continued to push, extending the lead in a pivotal 14-0 run that left the Sky ahead 72-65 with just over four minutes to play.

Despite Arike Ogunbowale’s best efforts for Dallas, scoring the next nine points, the Sky maintained their momentum and continued to extend their lead. This marked a significant turnaround from the season opener, where Ogunbowale’s fourth-quarter heroics had previously led the Wings to victory.

Defensive and Offensive Improvements Noted

Elizabeth Williams was instrumental on both ends of the court, contributing 10 rebounds, six steals, and five blocks, showcasing her defensive prowess. Dana Evans, Chennedy Carter (off the bench), and Angel Reese also had notable performances, each adding 12 and 11 points respectively, with Reese also grabbing nine rebounds. Mabrey rounded out her performance with nine rebounds, eight assists, and five steals, highlighting her all-around game.

Overcoming Early Deficits

The game began on an even keel with a 26-26 tie, but Dallas pulled ahead to lead 42-30 at halftime. The Sky's shooting struggles were evident as they hit only 1 of 9 from beyond the arc and shot just 28% from the field in the first half. However, adjustments at the break and a refocused effort in the second half led to a significant turnaround.

Wings Face Challenges

The Wings were without two starters from their Wednesday win. Natasha Howard, who played with a broken foot, is expected to miss at least a month, while Jaelyn Brown is out for about a week due to a broken nose. Monique Billings, signed to a hardship contract, stepped in and played 20 minutes, contributing five points and four rebounds.
